I know we are almost halfway through June but I’m just now settling down to reflect on our May! Of course, the peonies consumed much of the month, the ones that bloomed were spectacular and, even with losing so many to the freeze, we sold a lot of flowers! We had company in the form of my father-in-law and one of Grace’s college roommates, hosted a peony workshop, participated in a flower pop-up and tried, and failed, to stay on top of the weeds!

In Bloom

The peonies finished out strong with the pinks. This year, I was so smitten with the magenta peonies and loved pairing them with the blue Larkspur, purple Campanula, and the different shades of Baptisia.

I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention the snowball viburnum, the ranunculus, the beautiful poppies and other bits and bobs that were in bloom.

The Garden

The garden has been so pretty this year! The freeze slowed things down a bit but we’ve had beautiful lettuces, spinach, asparagus, arugula and radishes. Also, I’ve grown pansies this year and have loved having them atop drinks, in salads and as garnishes!

In the Kitchen

We’ve had some really yummy food this month, though I admit to not being good with taking photos. Whenever I make something it’s to actually eat or use so often it’s too dark, or I’m too rushed to take photos. I made a Victoria Sponge cake to celebrate our strawberries while Emma was here. While it was yummy, and very pretty, it was so messy to cut!

I particularly love this Spring Bread (from Veg Forward by Susan Spungen ). It’s just so pretty and tasty as well.

Finally, we had this cute visitor! A frog atop a frog at Frogs Hollow!
