Hello friends! Spring has finally sprung here but oh my goodness, I’ve never seen so much rain! Walking around feels like walking on a sponge and our to do list keeps growing as there are so many days where we can’t work outside. We don’t mind getting wet but when it’s this wet, it does too much damage to walk in the fields and we certainly can’t use equipment. The good news is that almost 100% of the peonies we planted in the fall have come up and are looking good so far!

Speaking of peonies, my dear friend Gretchen and I are hosting a peony workshop at the farm this May! Gretchen is a potter who will be making beautiful vases for the peonies at the workshop. You can read all about it here. If you are local, we would love to see you!

While we wait for the peonies to get going, we’ve been enjoying the daffodils, forsythia, hellebores, snowflakes and crabapple branches. The variety of daffodils are absolutely astounding and I seem to love them all!

I’ve seeded all my peppers, tomatoes, some flowers and my cool crops such as kale, peas, cabbage and lettuces. We’ve even gotten our season’s first crop of rhubarb (I made a rhubarb chutney… which was an incredible waste of the beautiful rhubarb). I literally cannot wait to start cooking from the garden.

For our Easter brunch, I did make a lavender creme brûlée that was yummy!

We’ve got other projects going on as well, some woodland restoration, planting trees up in pots instead of the woods to give them a better chance of survival, we’ve planted more fruit trees in the orchard and I’ve been working on giving our patio a bit of a glow up. I hope spring has sprung wherever you are and remember to soak up as much of the beauty as you can… we need that on endless rainy days!
